On the 28th July IPM Holland held the annual grower meeting at Mr. Temmerman’s farm in Wieringerwerf. Here we displayed our current and promising new varieties. Mr. Temmerman presented his farm and explained how he runs it. Due to bad weather we couldn’t visit the trial field but instead displayed and discussed our varieties indoors.
IPM ships a large quantity of seed potatoes in containers around the world, therefore we felt an excursion to Rotterdam Harbour would help us and our growers to see what happens to containers after they leave the farm. To learn more about the process we visited the ECT container terminal at the Maasvlakte, here we got to see the process of handling a container, from picking up an empty container to bringing in the full container. We found this incredibly interesting and now know that all the handling is done in a very short timeframe and very efficiently. After our visit to the container terminal we had boat tour through Rotterdam Harbour, the largest harbour in Europe. We all found it very impressive.
We would like to thank our growers for their time and for helping make the day a success.
We hope they found the day as educational and interesting as we did.
